I’m just a girl… standing in front of a mirror… trying not to feel so fucking weird about affirmations.

I understand they’re the key to manifesting inner peace and happiness. I believe in their power to reframe how you think and feel about yourself. And yet, I cannot recite affirmations without feeling like a big ol’ dummy.

But recently, while singing in my car (somehow not feeling like an idiot?), I realized that traditional affirmations don’t feel natural to me. Looking in a mirror and telling myself that “I am strong” or “I am brave” just feels like…

What would feel more natural are beautiful words of love written by true artists. In fact, I never want a man to tell me, “You’re so beautiful” — I’d prefer him to say:

You and your body… every single portion
Send chills up and down my spine

Like Ginuwine sings to the object of his affection in the BEAUTIFUL song, “Pony”!!!

90s songs, in my mind, are the epitome of true love and confidence. Ain’t Nobody could measure up to the confidence level of L.L Cool J or Missy Elliot. I just feel like if I could channel that kind of confidence, I’d believe in myself a whole lot more.

But seriously, affirmations are very serious. The fun thing about being human is that we believe everything we think about ourselves which is SO SILLY. We have trained our brains to believe that our negative, obtrusive thoughts are reality… and they are not.

It’s like I always say… just open your heart and your mind. Is it really fair to feel this way inside? Whoa-oh-oh.

• 🧑‍🦳 I have never shopped at Tuckernuck because it feels too white for me? (I’m literally 99.9% Irish, so who am I to talk?) But this dress looks like a perfect summer dress. I won’t be buying it.

This has been a very busy week and I’m currently in bed with a stomachache and mental overwhelm. It’s funny, because I’m basically complaining about THREE DAYS OF WORK, but facilitation, teaching, strategic planning, socialization, driving, etc. has completely wiped me out.

There’s also the fact that everything is terrible right now, all of my shows have ended (bring back 22 episode seasons!!!) and for whatever reason, SMARTLESS STARTED A MOBILE COMPANY? I got so riled up that I trolled them with an Arrested Development quote, and I’m not entirely proud of myself for it.

Anyways, I’ve got to go to pilates for my DUMB MENTAL HEALTH.
